AST SFWK Code on Workplace Fatigue


On Oct. 18, AST SFWK issued a draft code on workplace fatigue.

  • AST SFWK developing model code of practice to guide persons conducting business or undertaking (PCBUs) managing workplace fatigue, supported by members, regulators.
  • Code provides guidance on achieving Work health and safety act and regs standards.
  • Code will be admissible in AST Court as evidence of workplace hazards, risks, controls.

  • Defines fatigue as acute/ongoing state leading to physical, mental or emotional exhaustion; covers three main hazard categories including individual factors.
  • Addresses direct health impacts and safety risks from fatigue-impaired performance.
  • PCBUs must manage fatigue risks through systematic risk management process.
  • Requires consultation with workers and health and safety representatives (HSRs) when identifying hazards and making control decisions; officers' duty to ensure compliance.
