On Feb. 17, POL GVT confirmed establishment of a new working group.
POL GVT announced the establishment of a working group for the development of a law on combating human trafficking, especially in the face of migration from Ukraine.
Working Group
Human trafficking is one of the most serious crimes, violating basic human rights, such as freedom, dignity and the right to self-determination, and within Poland, especially in the face of migration caused by the war in Ukraine, there is a risk of this in practice.
This crime includes, among other things, the recruitment, the transportation and the detention of persons, often by means of coercion, via fraud, or abuse of dependency.
They become victims of slavery, forced begging, forced labor or sexual exploitation.
Due to ongoing conflicts, including the war in Ukraine, Poland is particularly vulnerable to this practice, and women and children are the most affected, with human trafficking a global phenomenon requiring vigilance and international cooperation in combating it.
To counteract the phenomenon, a working group has been established that will now be responsible for developing draft act on human trafficking action, to present to POL GVT.
The purpose of the act is the more effective counteracting the growing phenomenon of human trafficking, including forced labor and streamlining the existing regulations.
Also, clearly defining responsibilities of institutions that prosecute the perpetrators and helping victims, and increasing public awareness of the problem of human trafficking.
The first meeting of the team took place on Feb. 14, 2025, to analyse all of the current regulations on human trafficking, which are at present scattered across various acts.
Next Steps
Further meetings are planned for the end of Mar. 2025 and the beginning of May 2025, by when, the draft assumptions of the act requirements, and its scope, will be created.
In accordance with the assumptions made in the National Action Plan against Human Trafficking for 2025-2027, the act should enter into force during 2027, at the latest.
