On Jan. 16, BNG ICT proposed rules on personal data protection.
BNG ICT issued drafted Personal data protection ordinance, 2025, to provide personal data protection of individual in accordance with the international principles.
The international principles include personal data collection, processing, use, access, storage, retrieval, transfer, disclosure, access as well as other related matters.
Follows BNG ICT Aug. 2023 issued draft of personal data protection bill, see #201597.
Overview of Proposed Ordinance
It specifies the principles of personal data protection, required consent re collection and processing of personal data, rights of accessing personal data, and exemptions.
The data controller shall ensure the fair and proper processing of personal data.
They shall ensure that personal data are processed in a transparent manner.
Establishes the Bangladesh Data Protection Board; specifies provision of storage and transfer of personal data, personal data registry, and penalties for any violations.
