On Oct. 24, NJ LEG issued order on EV minimum filing requirements.
NJ LEG reported the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) adopted minimum filing requirements (MFRs) for medium-and-heavy-duty (MHD) electric vehicles (EVs).
Minimum Filing Requirements
The MFRs direct the state’s investor-owned electric distribution companies (EDCs) to propose programs to expand charging access for MHD electric vehicles and fleets.
Expansion of EV charging ecosystem will catalyze ongoing clean transition of state’s fleet, yielding significant greenhouse gas emissions reductions and improve air quality.
Allows EDC incentives for make ready chargers for public-serving fleets/certain private fleets in overburdened municipalities or communities adjacent to freight EV corridors.
MFRs will connect applicants to utilities and require that utilities create and update capacity maps demonstrating where the grid is capable of supporting MHD charging.
Provide framework for proactive planning for public charging stations over 500 kW.
Additionally, the order required that EDCs create managed charging programs in order to balance the demand on the grid and encourage EV users to charge at night.
Effectiveness
EDCs required to file proposed programs within 120 days of order, i.e. Feb. 20, 2025.
