COL LEG reported release of the 2024 Colorado Strategic Wildfire Action Program's (COSWAP) workforce development grant, with $4mn available for Conservation Corps.
Grant Details
Funds Colorado Youth Corps Association (CYCA) and Department of Corrections State Wildland Inmate Fire Teams (DOC SWIFT), to conduct wildfire mitigation projects.
Also, fund mitigation and forestry training to educate and support the future workforce
COSWAP created after 2020 fire season by governor and COL LEG, addresses urgent need to reduce wildfire risk in COL through workforce development and projects.
Since 2021, COSWAP funded 73 workforce development projects, totaling $10.3mn.
Grants available for projects located within identified strategic focus areas, which include: Boulder, Douglas, El Paso, Jefferson, Larimer, La Plata, and Teller counties.
DOC SWIFT crews operate out of Four mile correctional facility in Canon City and can support projects within 3 hour drive; wildfire mitigation trainings available Statewide.
Application Deadline
First round reviews for CYCA accredited conservation corps projects due Oct. 9, 2024.
Deadline to submit applications is Nov. 1, 2024; applications to be notified by Dec. 31.
