On Aug. 21, RI INS issued guidance on electronic NIPR appointments.
RI INS issued Bulletin 2024-6, insurance producer electronic appointments via NIPR.
Provided appointment filing instructions for the implementation of insurance producer electronic appointments, required to be filed via NIPR’s system starting Jan. 1, 2025.
Under SB 2798, use of NIPR will replace annual contracted producer report, #217017.
Filing Process
As part of transition, RI INS is requiring all 2024 appointments to be filed through NIPR in Jan. 2025 regardless of the then current status of those appointments.
Any insurance producer appointed in 2024, even if the insurance producers was also unappointed, must be captured in the firm's initial appointment filing through NIPR.
After the initial report, the firm can then terminate the appointment of that producer.
Specified that the fee for each appointment filing is $15 plus an NIPR processing fee.
Appointments by license, not by line of authority which need not be filed separately.
Also provides instructions and grounds for terminating appointments through NIPR.
Annual Appointment Renewals
Appointment renewals due Jan. 31st each year beginning in 2026; invoiced via NIPR.
All appointments must be renewed or terminated; must be terminated prior to Jan. 31.
Otherwise the appointment will be included renewal invoice and must be renewed.
The fee for each appointment renewal is $15 plus an NIPR processing fee.
There is no State fee to terminate an appointment; there is an NIPR processing fee.
Filing Deadline
All initial electronic appointment filings must be made between Jan. 1–31, 2025.
During this time period, true initial appointments are also required within 15 calendar days from the date the first insurance application is submitted to the insurer.
All appointments made on or after Feb. 1, 2025, are deemed first-time appointments, and must be made within 15 days from the date of the first insurance application.
Oct. 2024 RI INS Issued Technical Corrections
On Oct. 10, 2024, RI INS issued Bulletin 2024-6amending the August version issued.
Amendment to bulletin is intended to address certain technical limitations in original.
