FEMA reported approval of disaster declaration for South Dakota, supplementing efforts in areas affected by storms, winds, flooding from Jun. 16 to Jul. 8, 2024.
Funding available for victims in Davison, Lincoln, Turner and Union counties, including grants for temporary housing and home repairs, loans for uninsured property losses.
Also for State, tribal, eligible local governments, private nonprofits for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities in 25 counties damaged by the weather.
Federal funding is available on cost-sharing for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

FEMA may provide the private nonprofit with a Public Assistance grant for their eligible costs and SBA encourages private nonprofits to apply for disaster loan assistance.
SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills, regardless of whether the nonprofit suffered property damage.
Application Deadlines
Deadline to apply for property damage is Oct. 15, 2024, and for EIDL, May 15, 2025.

Aug. 26, 2024 SBA Federal Loan Program
On Aug. 26, 2024, SBA notified federal low-interest loan program to firms affected by Jun. 16 - Jul. 8, 2024 South Dakota severe storms, straight line winds, flood impact.
Working capital loans up to $2 million including repair, replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other additional business assets.
Loans up to $500k available to homeowners to repair/replace damaged real estate.
Homeowners and renters eligible for up to $100k to repair or replace personal property
Deadline to apply for property damage is Oct. 25, 2024 and for EIDL is May 27, 2025.
Sep. 2024 FEMA Aid for Damaged Wells, Septic Systems
On Sep. 4, 2024, FEMA reported assistance may be available for damaged wells and septic systems in Davison, Lincoln, Turner, Union counties, for event Jun. 16 to Jul. 8.
FEMA may reimburse the cost of a professional, licensed technician to prepare an estimate detailing the necessary repairs or replacement of disaster-damaged systems.
Additionally, FEMA may pay for the actual repair or replacement cost of the septic system or private well, which typically is not covered by homeowner’s insurance.
Sep. 6, 2024 FEMA Rental Assistance
On Sep. 6, 2024, FEMA made rental assistance available for renters and homeowners in South Dakota whose homes cannot be occupied due to Jun. 16-Jul 8, 2024 storms.
FEMA Rental Assistance is a temporary grant for survivors to pay for temporary housing while they repair or rebuild their home, including a house, hotel room, etc.
For those found to be eligible, initial grant is for two months on a case-by-case basis.

On Sep. 11, 2024, FEMA published a federal register notice of the presidential declaration of a major disaster for the State of South Dakota (FEMA-4807-DR).
Sep. 13, 2024, SBA Rural Area Declaration
On Sep. 13, 2024, SBA published federal registernotice of administrative disaster declaration of a rural area for South Dakota for storms of Jun. 16 to Jul. 8, 2024.
The following areas have been determined to be adversely affected by the disaster, including primary counties of Bon Homme, Clay, Hutchinson, McCook, Yankton.
Application deadline for physical damage is Oct. 25, 2024 and for EIDLs May 27, 2025.
