On Jun. 27, FINRA notice on access to production API reference data.
FINRA issued technical notice on new Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for access to all production API reference data files with transition to occur starting Jul. 8, 2024.
MFA Access
Users will need to be entitled to use product, have assigned user name and password, answer security questions and enroll in one, more additional authentication methods.
FINRA updated the ADF, ORF, and TRACE API reference user guides on FINRA website.
Dedicated TRAQS/API multi factor authentication user guide and MFA web help page.
FINRA recommends enrolling in more than one additional authentication method.
Enrolling in more than one authentication method allows redundancy and using land line phone number or a phone number that differs from your mobile number to enroll.
Available authentication methods include Okta Verify, Google Authenticator, SMS Authentication, and Voice Call Authentication; signup and usage is in MFA user guide.
Active users will be emailed automatically when MFA is implemented, member firms to establish new API users via PDM; existing users will receive an invitation via email.
FINRA will discontinue use of digital certificates to access reference data API after business close on Sep. 27, 2024, firms transition to MFA encouraged soon as possible.
Starting Jul. 8, 2024, any new user wishing to access the API files in NTF or production must use MFA; digital certificates will not be issued for any new user after Jul. 5, 2024.
Effectiveness
MFA for production AP reference data files access begins Jul. 8, 2024.
Aug. 2024 FINRA MFA Reminder
On Aug. 23, 2024, FINRA published Technical notice, reminder that beginning Sep. 30, 2024, FINRA will require MFA for access to all production API reference data files.
Updated TRAQS/API Multi Factor Authentication User Guide and MFA Web Help page are available for reference to new process and signup and usage of access methods.
Directed those affected to refer to refer to the ADF, ORF, TRACE CA, TRACE SP, or TRACE TS API specifications to assist with programmatic download instructions.
Sep. 2024 FINRA MFA Implementation Extension
On Sep. 16, 2024, FINRA publishedTechnical notice, announcing it will be extending test period for this project, and modified the implementation date to Nov. 11, 2024.
Beginning on Nov. 11, 2024, will require MFA for access to all production API reference data files, no longer support use of digital certificates to access reference data API.
Failure to use MFA starting on that date will prevent access to any API reference data files, users not be able to download security master files or security daily list updates.
