NY LEG governor Hochul announced $11mn in federal funding to local governments to support projects to enhance resiliency and reduce the impact of extreme weather.
Federal Funding
Funding made available through FEMA’s Hazard mitigation grant program, reserved for NY following President Biden’s major disaster declaration following Sep. 2023 floods.
After disaster declaration, FEMA provides funding via Hazard mitigation grant program for states to administer grant programs to support local hazard mitigation planning.
Long-term hazard mitigation measures to reduce life loss, improve property damaged.
Local governments and certain non-profits are eligible to apply for these grants.
Eligible entities statewide can apply to receive funding to cover up to 75% of costs for projects that enhance resiliency and reduce the impacts of future extreme weather.
Projects in Kings, Nassau and Westchester counties will be prioritized using criteria such as direct risk reduction to vulnerable populations, which address climate change.
Also, projects that mitigate risk to critical infrastructure and repetitive loss structure.
Application Deadline
Application period is currently open until Sep. 13, 2024.
Jul. 2024 NY LEG Governor Disaster Funds
On Jul. 31, 2024, NY LEG governor Hochul reported on the $11mn in emergency assistance in response to tornadoes and flooding across NY State during Jul.
Up to $5mn to support low, moderate-income homeowners in Chautauqua, Erie, Essex, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Warren counties; up to $50k homeowner emergency repairs.
Additionally, up to $4mn for Oneida County, including city of Rome for demolition work.
