  • Jul. 2024 HUD Offers Aid
  • On Jul. 1, 2024, HUD implemented federal disaster assistance for Iowa due to storms.
  • Aid provided includes a 90-day moratorium on FHA, Section 184 Indiana Home Loans, Home Equity Conversion Mortgages, all effective as of President's declaration date.
  • Conventional mortgage holders may also be eligible for relief through their holder.
  • HUD has also made FHA insurance available to disaster victims for replacement or repair and 100% financing including closing costs through FHA approved lenders.
  • Section 203(k) also allows individuals to finance the purchase or refinance of a house along with repairs through a single mortgage, including repair of existing homes.
  • HUD has also provided flexibility for waivers to public housing agencies and Tribes.

  • On Jul. 5, 2024, FEMA reported homeowners, renters in Buena Vista, Cherokee and O’Brien counties who suffered damage are now eligible to apply for FEMA Disaster Aid.
  • Jul. 12, 2024 SBA Amendment 1
  • On Jul. 12, 2024, SBA published Amendment 1 to Iowa disaster in the federal register.

  • On Jul. 25, 2024, SBA issued Amendment 3 to Iowa disaster in the federal register.
  • Amended list of primary counties to include (physical, EIDL) Dickinson, Humboldt, Palo Alto and contiguous Iowa counties (EIDL) to Calhoun, Hancock, Webster, Wright.
  • Also on Jul. 25, SBA stated that disaster loans due to severe weather are available to certain private nonprofits that provide essential services of a governmental nature.
  • Nonprofit loans are available in Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Humboldt, O'Brien, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Scott, Sioux, Winnebago, Woodbury and Worth counties.
  • SBA may lend private nonprofits up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets.
  • Further, SBA can lend funds to help with cost of improvements for future mitigation.
  • Eligible nonprofits can apply for EIDLs to help meet working capital needs to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, other bills that cannot be paid due to disaster.
