LOU LEG passed bill HB 660 relating to pet insurance and pet insurer requirements.
Adds new Ch 47 to Title 40 of of Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes PEN INS 40-47.
Creates framework for the sale, solicitation and negotiation of pet insurance policies.
Bill Provisions
If a pet insurer uses any of defined bill terms in pet insurance policy, the definition shall apply and the pet insurer shall include definition of term in pet insurance policy.
Pet insurer to make each definition available via clear, conspicuous link on main page of publicly accessible Internet website of pet insurer, insurer's program administrator.
Specified required disclosures, including, among others, whether policy excludes coverage due preexisting condition, hereditary disorder, or congenital anomaly.
Pet insurer may issue pet insurance policies that exclude coverage on basis of one or more preexisting conditions if the pet insurer follows the disclosure requirements.
Pet insurer has the burden of proving that the preexisting condition exclusion applies.
Also must disclose
A pet insurer may not require a veterinary examination of a pet covered under a pet insurance policy when the insured seeks a renewal of the pet insurance policy.
