On May 23, AST GVT registered regs re health insurance legislation.
AST GVT registered Health insurance legislation amendment (2024 measures no. 2) regulations 2024 (first amendment instrument) to amend regs on health insurance.
It also registered Health insurance legislation amendment (2024 measures no. 3) regulations 2024 (second amendment instrument) to amend regs on health insurance.

First Amendment Instrument
First amendment instrument amends Health insurance (diagnostic imaging services table) regulations (no. 2) 2020; Health insurance (general medical services table) regulations 2021; Health insurance (pathology services table) regulations 2020.
AST GVT said the amendments include introducing and amending medicare benefits schedule (MBS) items, and implementing other administrative and machinery changes.
Second Amendment Instrument
Second amendment instrument amends Health insurance (general medical services table) regulations 2021 as well as the Health insurance regulations 2018.
Specifically, to implement response to the MBS Review Taskforce recommendations relating to radiation oncology services, as agreed to in the 2023-24 mid-year economic and fiscal outlook under the An effective and clinically appropriate Medicare measure.
Effectiveness
Commencement of first amendment instrument is detailed in s 2; ss 1-4 and anything in that instrument not elsewhere covered by s 2 table, commences on May 24, 2024.
However, provides that schedule 1 as well as schedule 2 commence on Jul. 1, 2024.
The whole of the second amendment instrument commences on Jul. 1, 2024.
It revises Health insurance (diagnostic imaging services table) regulations (no. 2) 2020 (DIST), Health insurance (general medical services table) regulations 2021 (GMST).
It also amends Health insurance (pathology services table) regulations 2020 (PST), and health insurance regulations 2018 (HIR), re amending medicare benefits schedule.
It will implement administrative and machinery changes to the GMST, PST and HIR.
