MD LEG passed House bill HB 139 on notice of utility bills in residential building leases.
Repealing and reenacting, with amendments, MD LEG 8-205.1 on utility bill notices.
Bill Provisions
Adds gas, electric utility services to types of services for which landlords of buildings that contain 6 or more residential units are required to give written notice to tenant.
Written notice must be provided before the initiation of a lease, each term thereafter.
Notice to include total utility costs billed to landlord in preceding year, by utility type.
Landlords of buildings that contain 5 or fewer residential units required to provide notice to tenant that tenant is responsible for payments and provide copy of utility bill.
