White House WAS Disaster Declaration

On Feb. 20, White House reported disaster aid for Washington State.

  • White House reported its approval dated Feb. 15, 2024 of a disaster declaration for disaster aid for Washington State as a result of wildfires on Aug. 18 to Aug. 25, 2023.
  • SBA Low-interest federal disaster loans are now available to WAS businesses, residents
  • Eligibility
  • Funding is available for affected individuals and businesses in Spokane County and will supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the affected areas.
  • Assistance includes grants for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, to help recovery from the effects of the disaster.
  • Federal funding is also available to state, tribal, and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofits on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work.
  • Also, federal funding available on cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation statewide.

  • For small businesses, agricultural cooperatives, businesses engaged in aquaculture, private nonprofits of any size, SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs).
  • EIDLs intended to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster and EIDL assistance is available to businesses regardless of any actual property damage.

  • On Feb. 26, 2024, SBA published presidential disaster declaration in federal register.
  • Physical damage loans and EIDLs are now available to businesses injured in the disaster in Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Stevens, Whitman Counties in Washington.
  • Both loan types are also available in ID counties of Kootenai, Benewah, Bonner.
  • Physical damage loan application deadline is Apr. 15, 2024, EIDLs Nov. 15, 2024.

  • On Mar. 5, 2024, SBA published a correction to the Presidential declaration of major disaster for the State of Washington of wildfires on Aug. 18 to Aug. 25, 2023.
  • Loan application deadline for physical damage loans is Apr. 20, 2024 and the deadline for EIDLS is corrected to Nov. 20, 2024 with Spokane primary county for both types.
  • Contiguous WAS counties for EIDLs only include Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Stevens, Whitman; in Idaho, Kootenai, Benewah, and Bonner counties are also eligible.
