EU CNCL Myanmar Sanctions Renewed


On Apr. 28, EU CNCL extended Myanmar/Burma sanctions for 1 year.

  • Follows EU CNCL Feb. 2023 imposed round 6 of Myanmar/Burma sanctions, #163890.
  • Council Decision
  • On basis of a review of Dec 2013/184/CFSP and in view of continuing grave situation in Myanmar/Burma, the restrictive measures in place renewed for 92 persons and 17 entities until Apr. 30, 2024, and until Oct. 29, 2023 in respect of 1 person and 1 entity.
  • Based on the updated information received, entries for 24 persons and one entity included in the list of natural and legal persons, entities and bodies subject to restrictive measures set out in the Annex to Dec 2013/184/CFSP should be amended.

  • Effectiveness
  • The decision and regulation shall enter into force on the day of their publication in the EU official journal, Apr. 28, 2023; the decision shall apply until Apr. 30, 2024.
  • May 2023 Third Countries' Alignment
  • On May 22, 2023, EU CNCL issued a statement on the alignment of certain countries.
  • Candidate countries North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Serbia, Albania, potential candidate country Georgia, and EFTA countries Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein, members of the EEA, align themselves with Dec 2023/887.

  • Oct. 2023 Interim Review Decision
  • On Oct. 27, 2023, EU CNCL issued decision re entry 84 in section A and entry 17 in section B in the list of natural and legal persons, entities, bodies subject to restrictive measures in Annex to Dec 2013/184/CFSP; Arts. 5(1), 6(1) apply until Oct. 29, 2023.
  • On the basis of an interim review of Dec 2013/184/CFSP, the restrictive measures concerning those two entries should be prolonged until Apr. 30, 2024.
  • Based on the updated information received, those two entries and the entry for one other person included in the Annex to Dec 2013/184/CFSP should be amended.
  • Council Dec (CFSP) 2023/2422 of Oct. 26, 2023 amending Dec 2013/184/CFSP concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Myanmar/Burma.
  • Council Implementing Reg 2023/2435 of Oct. 26, 2023 implementing Reg 401/2013 concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Myanmar/Burma.
