  • Jun. 2024 Renewed Sanctions
  • On Jun. 18, 2024, EU CNCL published Council Dec (CFSP) 2024/1709 of Jun. 17, 2024 amending Dec 2014/386/CFSP concerning restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, renewing restrictions until Jun. 23, 2025.
  • Follows Jun. 17, 2024, EU CNCL decided to renew sanctions introduced in response to illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia for a year until Jun. 23, 2025.
  • The restrictive measures currently in place were first introduced in Jun. 2014.
  • Include prohibitions targeting imports of products originating from Crimea or Sevastopol into EU, and infrastructural or financial investments and tourism services.
  • Plus, exports of certain goods/technologies to Crimean companies or for use in Crimea in transport, telecommunications and energy sectors or for prospection, exploration and production of oil, gas, mineral resources also subject to EU restrictions.
  • Decision enters into force on day after publication in Official Journal, i.e. Jun. 19, 2024

On Jun. 19, EU CNCL issued decision extending restrictive measures.

  • Issued council decision of Jun. 18, 2020 amending decision 2014/386/CFSP concerning restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol.
  • The 2014 decision applied restrictions on goods originating in Crimea or Sevastopol, in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, until Jun. 23, 2020.
  • Present decision renewed the restrictive measures on such goods until Jun. 23, 2021.
  • Council does not recognize illegal annexation of these areas by the Russian Federation.

  • On Jun. 21, 2021, EU CNCL decided to renew sanctions introduced in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia for a year until Jun. 23, 2022.
  • Measures in place target EU imports of products originating in Crimea or Sevastopol.
  • Infrastructural or financial investments and tourism services in Crimea or Sevastopol.
  • Exports of certain goods and technologies to Crimean companies or for use in Crimea in transport, telecommunications, energy sectors or for the prospection, exploration and production of oil, gas and mineral resources are also subject to EU restrictions.
  • Jun. 20, 2022 Sanctions Renewal
  • On Jun. 20, 2022, EU CNCL decided to renew sanctions introduced in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation.
  • EU does not recognize and condemns the illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula as serious violation of international law; sanctions are extended until Jun. 23, 2023.

  • On Jun. 21, 2022, EU CNCL issued decision to renew sanctions in the Official Journal.
  • Decision in force on day following that of its publication in the Official Journal, Jun. 22.
