NPL NIA Use of National Identity Card


On Jun. 28, NPL NIA issued circular on taking identity card details.


  • NPL NIA issued a circular regarding inclusion of national identity card details in insurance transactions, following NPL GVT gazette stating that the national identity card will be made mandatory for banking and financial services from Jan. 14, 2025.
  • To accept the national identity card instead of the certificate of Nepalese citizenship.

  • Effective Jan. 14, 2025, it is mandatory to include details of national identity card for all types of insurance transactions, such as new policies and renewal of policies.
  • Plus, for insurance intermediary registration/renewal, payment of service facilities, including purchase of insurance policy, surrender of insurance policy, payment of claim.
  • Publicity required by insurers for implementation of the above; they should also create internal procedures, and take immediate action to make revisions to related forms.
