On Jul. 13, COL LEG reported tax relief for COL wildfire victims.
COL LEG reported that the Department of Revenue (DOR) is offering help to people and businesses affected by the 2026 wildfires burning throughout Colorado.
Tax Relief
The relief applies to all residents and businesses in Dolores, Montezuma, Lake, Mesa, Pueblo, Custer, Ouray, Las Animas, Baca, Routt, San Miguel and Huerfano counties.
This list will expand based on any new emergency declarations from Governor Polis.
The DOR extended to Dec. 31 the deadlines for income tax extensions due Oct. 15 and sales tax filings due between Jul. 20 and Oct. 20 for the affected taxpayers.
Taxpayers can contact DOR to request penalty waivers for other taxes, fees due in Oct.
Taxpayers affected by the wildfires have until Nov. 6, 2026, to file these taxes.
Relief only applies to state taxes and not municipal taxes collected by home-rule cities.
