Renewal Rationale
Despite recent positive developments, the crisis created by government still continues.
Such as government's continued support for international terrorism; ongoing efforts to destabilize neighboring governments; and the prevalence of human rights violations.
Follows OFAC Oct. 2018 revoking certain sanctions related to the Sudan, see #35408.
Human Rights Violations
Include slavery and the denial of religious freedom; persistent violence in Sudan's Darfur region against civilians and sexual violence against women and girls.
President certified that the government of Sudan has taken demonstrable steps to ensure armed forces and related militias are not committing atrocities.
Also, not obstructing human rights monitors or provision of humanitarian assistance.
Sudan government also taking steps to allow an international commission of inquiry to conduct investigation of atrocities in the Darfur, consistent with UN Resolution 1564.
Implement final agreements of Naivasha peace process and install new coalition government based on Nairobi Declaration on the Final Phase of Peace in the Sudan.
President also issued certification of rescission concerning the government of Sudan.
Certified that Sudan has not provided any support for acts of international terrorism during the preceding 6-months and gave assurances it won't support acts of terrorism.
