On Oct. 30, EU CNCL issued regulation and decision on sanctions.


  • EU issued Council Decision (CFSP) 2020/1585 of 29 October 2020 amending Decision (CFSP) 2015/1763 concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Burundi.
  • Council implementing Reg 2020/1578 of 29 October 2020 implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/1755 concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Burundi.
  • Amended Dec (CFSP) 2015/1763 to renew restrictive measures until Oct. 31, 2021.
  • Amended information re two people, Godefroid BIZIMANA, Gervais NDIRAKOBUCA.
  • Also issued notices for the attention of relevant persons and data subjects.

  • Also corrected identifying information for Leonard NGENDAKUMANA, Mathias-Joseph NIYONZIMA, published updated version of consolidated list of asset freeze targets.
  • Oct. 2021 EU Extend Sanctions
  • On Oct. 19, 2021, EU CNCL issued decision (CFSP) 2021/1826 of Oct. 18, amending decision (CFSP) 2015/1763 on restrictive measures in view of the situation in Burundi.
  • Following review, decided restrictive measures should be renewed until Oct. 31, 2022.
  • Decision entered into force on the day following publication in OJ, e.g. Oct. 20, 2021.
  • Oct. 2022 Renewed Restrictions
  • On Oct. 25, 2022, EU CNCL issued Dec (CFSP) 2022/2051 and Reg 2022/2043 of Oct. 24, 2022 amending Dec (CFSP) 2015/1763, Reg 2015/1755, respectively, concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Burundi, extended to Oct. 31, 2023.
  • Three persons also removed from the list of natural and legal persons, entities and bodies subject to restrictive measures: entry 1 (Godefroid Bizimana); entry 2 (Gervais Ndirakobuca, alias Ndakugarika); and entry 4 (Léonard Ngendakumana).
  • Oct. 23, 2023 Renewed Restrictions
  • On Oct. 23, 2023, EU CNCL renewed restrictive measures regarding situation in Burundi for another year, until Oct. 31, 2024; the measures currently apply to one person.

  • On Oct. 24, 2023, EU CNCL issued Dec (CFSP) 2023/2228 of Oct. 23 amending Dec (CFSP) 2015/1763 concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Burundi.
