On Jan. 20, ASX proposed dynamic strike interval settings re options.
ASX issued proposal on dynamic strike interval setting re Australian electricity options.
Follows ASX Jun. 2023 proposed changes with respect to electricity options, #174650.
Background
ASX previously kept Australian electricity option strikes unchanged at AUD 1 intervals after 2023 feedback highlighted need for finer increments during lower, stable prices.
Only 5% of listed strikes across average rate options, strip options have open interest.
ASX has developed capability to dynamically manage strike listings more efficiently.
Proposed Changes
New system enables dynamic auto-listing of option strikes at different intervals based on underlying price levels; allows listing single strikes outside current range without backfilling intermediate strikes; facilitates listing single strikes within current range.
Namely between auto-listed intervals; in addition, changes would only apply to newly listed contracts/strikes; the existing listings and positions will remain unchanged.
Consultation Period
Market participants encouraged to provide feedback by Feb. 28, 2025; ASX will issue a follow-up notice in Mar. 2025 to confirm the outcome of consultation and next steps.
