On Oct. 20, 2025, SWE CB updated on Standard for Industrial Classification (SNI).
SNI is primarily a statistical standard used to classify units such as companies and workplaces per their economic activities, makes it possible to compare, analyze data both nationally and internationally over time, can be used for administrative purposes.
Statistics Sweden is responsible for SNI classification, SWE Tax is responsible to get SNI codes, what happens in connection with companies registering operations with it.
To help find right SNI codes for operation, Statistics Sweden's search system SNI-Sök is available; SWE Tax forwards data re SNI codes to Statistics Sweden's business register (public), so SNI codes can be disclosed, disseminated via e.g. online services.
On Dec. 8, 2025, SNI 2025 will be launched to align with new version of EU NACE.
The new SNI version will replace SNI 2007; more relevant details are provided.
On Mar. 17, SWE SCB said new SNI will be launched at end of 2025.
SWE Standard Industrial Classification (SNI) is used to classify companies/workplaces according to type of activity they carry out and is important for economic statistics.
Document dated Mar. 17, 2025, was received on Jun. 13, 2025 due to a new feed.
New Codes
At the end of 2025, SNI 2025 will be launched to align with a new version of the European Economic Area (NACE) standard; therefore, SNI codes, also known as industry codes, will be changed; the new SNI version replaces SNI 2007.
If companies do not actively update their codes, SWE SCB will at a later stage make an automatic reclassification based on information from, for example, annual reports.
This may be less accurate compared to if the company makes the change themselves.
For most companies, the change means that they will get a new code but with the same content as current; however, for a large number of companies, the SNI code will be split; this means that parts of the content will be moved to other codes.
Effectiveness
SNI 2025 will formally enter into force in Dec. 2025 (when classification implemented in SWE SCB's company database), replace current SNI 2007, in force since 2008.
