CSA Que made changes re vehicle theft to mitigate impacts to motorists and insurers.
To improve transactions, CSA Que updated automobile insurance forms, and deployed the infoNIV database jointly with Groupement Des Assureurs Automobiles (GAA).
Highlights
CSA Que adjusted the amount that is offered to motorists to rent a vehicle in a complete theft event to a maximum of $3k per claim, and takes inflation into account.
Also launched compensation that is more advantageous for the motorist since, who has a choice to replace his vehicle in the event of a total loss, or choose a lump sum.
CSA Que encouraged insurers who require installation of an anti-theft or identification device to offer, a premium discount or to assume the costs of installing such a device.
Insurers will have to add vehicle identification number (NIV) of insured vehicles to the infoNIV database to allow police to hand over found vehicles to insurers more quickly.
The infoNIV database optimized communications between police forces that find a stolen vehicle and the insurer who became the owner after the settlement of the claim.
Effectiveness
Insurer participation is optional until Jan. 1, 2025, when it will become mandatory.
