  • A principle-based resolution regime, providing complete discretion to the regulated entities (REs) to design and implement resolution plans.
  • Eligibility expanded to include standard exposures in default up to 30 days, if affected by a natural calamity.
  • A dedicated window for the invocation of the resolution framework along with a separate window for implementation of resolution plan.
  • Exposures restructured as part of relief measures shall continue to be classified as standard with income recognition on accrual basis; additional provisioning reduced compared to other restructured exposures.

  • Apr. 2026 Implementation, Response
  • On Apr. 29, 2026, IND RBI published its response to submissions and revised the proposed amendments, which include postponing the effective date to Jul. 1, 2026.
  • The definition of natural calamity has been amended to include events recognized under the state disaster response fund/national disaster response fund.
  • IND RBI finalized the amendments by revising the corresponding directions, #277915.
  • For commercial banks, IND RBI issued amendment directions 2026 regarding resolution of stressed assets, income recognition, asset classification and provisioning, responsible business conduct, credit risk management.

  • Sep. 2026 Reporting Mechanism Introduced
  • On Sep. 2, 2026, IND RBI introduced a half-yearly return for reporting relief measures in natural calamity-affected areas via the Centralised Information Management System (CIMS) portal.
  • This aligns reporting with the Apr. 29, 2026 amendment directions referenced above.
  • REs must submit the return within 30 days from the end of each half-year: by Oct. 30 for the half-year ending Sep. 30, and by Apr. 30 for the half-year ending Mar. 31.
  • REs must ensure information submitted via the CIMS portal is accurate, complete, and duly validated, with appropriate internal systems for timely collection and consolidation.
  • The existing monthly return applicable to all scheduled commercial banks (including small finance banks, excluding regional rural banks) on this subject is discontinued, effective Jul. 1, 2026.
  • Sep. 29, 2026 Responsible Business Conduct Master Directions.
  • On Sep. 29, 2026, IND RBI issued the revised Reserve Bank of India (Local Area Banks - Responsible Business Conduct Directions, 2025 (updated as on Jul. 1, 2026).
  • IND RBI also issued revised Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks – Responsible Business Conduct) Directions, 2025 (updated as on Jul. 1, 2026).
  • The two revised master directions reflect the amendments made on Apr. 29, 2026 above.
  • The amendments took effective from Jul. 1, 2026.
