Guidelines are being updated in response to new Consumer Credit Directive, and SWE FI is thus issuing new general advice on credit in consumer relationships.
It concerns application of the provisions on good credit practice and credit assessment in Chapter 1, s9 and Chapter 3, s 13–14 of the Consumer Credit Act (Act 2026:1011).
The guidelines clarifies, among other things, what information a creditor should use as a basis for its credit assessment and how the information should be checked.
The general guidelines states what should be taken into consideration when Granting credit (Chapter 2), on Housing loans (Chapter 3), for Early payment of fixed-interest housing loans (Chapter 4), as well as for Surety and third-party pledge (Chapter 5).
Also, in relation to the Offsetting and payment of any overdue credit (Chapter 6).
The guidelines do not cover marketing and information that a company provides to a consumer before a credit agreement, but this is all available from the SWE CA.
SWE FI's previous guidelines issued under FFFS 2025:10 on credit in consumer relationships is essentially unchanged, apart from certain linguistic adjustments.
Effectiveness
The new updated guidelines will now come fully into effect from Nov. 20, 2026, repealing previous guidelines (FFFS 2025:10) on credit in consumer relationships.
