On Jan. 17, CAL LEG issued executive order banning evictions for fires.
CAL LEG governor Newsom issued executive order (EO) to expand eviction protections for tenants, who provide shelter to survivors of Los Angeles-area firestorms.
Also CAL AG Bonta issued statement regarding the EO expressing his commitment.
Executive Order
Prohibits landlords from using unlawful detainer process to evict a tenant for violating term of lease that would otherwise prohibit them from sheltering from emergency.
Order does not prohibit landlords from enforcing other lease terms, such as criminal activity or property damage; interim solution to provide immediate relief for survivors.
CAL AG issued a statement in support of the executive order banning evictions.
Effectiveness
The order is in effect until Mar. 8, 2025.
