  • EGY FRA reported issuance of Decision 196 of 2024 re minimum capital for companies operating in insurance sector, in implementation of Unified Insurance Law 155 of 2024.
  • Overview
  • Obliged companies operating in the insurance sector to raise the minimum issued and paid-up capital in two stages over two years to reach 400 million EGP in the first stage.
  • The capital will be then increased in the second stage to reach EGP 600 million EGP.
  • Set minimum capital for property and liability insurance companies practicing branches of petroleum, aviation, energy insurance at approximately 400 mn EGP in first phase.
  • Value will be increased by 50 mn EGP for each branch practiced, then the capital will be increased to 600 million pounds, within 2 years from the decision’s implementation.
  • Companies shall regularize their situations within a year from its implementation date.
  • Required companies to prepare timetable detailing stages of increasing their capital and to provide it to the EGY FRA within one month from the date of its entry into force.

  • On Jul. 30, 2025, EGY FRA issued Decision 144/2025 amending Decision 196/2024.
  • Set phase 1 paid-up capital for property and liability insurance companies operating in petroleum, aviation, energy to EGP 450M for one branch, 500M for 2, EGP 550M for 3.
  • Phase 2 paid-up capital is EGP 650M for one branch, EGP 700M for 2, EGP 750M for 3.
  • The amendments replaces certain capital amount ranges with narrower ranges, specifying EGP 400M or EGP 450M, as applicable instead of previous broader amounts,
