On Oct. 19, 2026, SD INS published filing of final rule to clarify term resident for producers, entities and applicants, in South Dakota Register, Volume 53.
First, the division would define the term resident as it applies to individual producers, business entities, and applicants, providing greater clarity for insurance licensing.
Second, the division would amend the existing rules to update and incorporate by reference the latest guidelines on coverage for preventive items and services.
This would align South Dakota’s coverage requirements with the current standards.
Incorporate a standard for broker-dealers, a higher standard for broker-dealers by requiring them to act in the best interest of clients when making recommendations.
In addition, the third, the division would repeal Appendix A and replace its outdated reference material by incorporating the most recent edition of applicable guidelines.
