On Mar. 19, NZ Tax mandated two-step verification for all myIR users.
NZ Tax said two-step verification (referred to as 2SV) will become compulsory for all myIR users, and it explained that 2SV adds a layer of security for myIR accounts.
2SV will be mandatory for all intermediaries, tax agents, and potentially some clients.
Setting up Two-Step Verification
When 2SV is enabled, users must enter unique security code to verify their identity when logging into myIR; also applies to customers using RealME or a passkey.
Trusted device option will last 90 days, after which users must re-enter security code.
Users can authenticate their identity using email and/or an authenticator app.
The email address used for authentication will no longer be required to be unique.
