On Apr. 14, OKL LEG enacted bill on dental insurance claims.
OKL LEG enacted SB 1942 to amend law governing dental insurance plans, provider contracts, redefined Covered services and how insurers regulate pricing, claims.
Expands definition of Covered services to mean services that are reimbursable under plan, regardless of contractual limits (such as deductibles, waiting periods, etc.).
Limits insurers’ ability to control pricing for services they do not reimburse, increases transparency in claim denials, and shifts more pricing authority to dental providers.
Patients/employers may face higher out-of-pocket costs if negotiated rates no longer apply, but dentists gain more control over pricing for non-reimbursed services.
Insurers lose some ability to enforce discounted fee schedules in certain cases.
Dental plans must maintain formal appeal processes for dentists and/or patients challenging claim denials.
