On Feb. 21, 2025, HK GVT gazetted the Minimum wage ordinance (amendment of schedule 3) notice 2025, revising the prescribed minimum hourly wage rate.
The notice comes into operation on May 1, 2025.
On Feb. 18, HK LAB said new statutory minimum wage was adopted.
HK LAB said Chief Executive adopted recommendation on statutory minimum wage (SMW) rate, increased from HKD 40/hour to HKD 42.1/hour, representing 5.25% rise.
Also announced an increase in the monthly wage threshold for work-hour recording exemption from HKD 16.3k to HKD 17.2k, effective same day as the SMW revision.
Minimum Wage Commission believes the new rate balances preventing excessively low wages while minimizing job losses, supporting HK’s economic growth, competitiveness.
Effectiveness
The amendment will be gazetted on Feb. 21 and tabled in HK PRL on Feb. 26, with implementation set for May 1, 2025, pending approval.
