On Mar. 22, BEL PRL adopted bill amending personal data law.
BEL PRL adopted bill 55K3692 in its version 55K3692/003establishing the common database Terrorism, Extremism, Radicalization Process (TER) and amending the Law of Jul. 30, 2018 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data, the Law of Jul. 30, 2018 establishment of local integral security cells re radicalism, extremism and terrorism and the Law of Aug. 5, 1992 on police duties.
Purpose
The adopted bill established one common database (TER) to process materials of terrorism, extremism and radicalism for basic services and public prosecutor's office.
List of the different basic services and specification of the different typologies of rights giving access to TER e.g. right to read, right to write, right to query, access archives.
Bill integrated into law the different categories of people treated in TER which were previously listed in a royal decree, and added the category Preliminary Investigation.
TER can be interconnected with another operational database of a basic service or a cooperative service or an authentic source in compliance with data protection rules.
Effectiveness
The law will enter into force on Jan. 1, 2025; it is further submitted for royal assent.
