Thai SEC proposed improvements to classification criteria and provision of services to institutional investors and large investors for securities, futures and other businesses.
Key Principles
Institutional investor is revised to mean a juristic person with specified characteristics.
Definition of qualified investors to mean investors with experience and expertise in investing, including fund managers, investment analysts, and angel investors.
Amend definition of large investor for overseas investment services to be consistent with other principles; defined as ultra high net worth investors with total investment/ deposits of THB 30mn or more for individuals, THB 60mn or more for juristic persons.
Thai SEC has also revised the criteria for providing services to retail investors to invest in foreign products traded in securities exchanges or futures contracts, by requiring the exchange to be a member of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE).
When the new criteria come into effect, businesses will have to classify institutional investors according to the new criteria starting from the next KYC review cycle.
