  • On Oct. 29, 2024, EU CNCL approved additional restrictive measures against 3 persons and 1 entity associated with Myanmar military junta, responsible for scam operations targeting Myanmar population and citizens from other countries in the region.

  • Includes Chit Linn Myaing Group (CLM) and founder and former chairman Colonel Saw Chit Thu; CLM is a group of companies that is involved with and profits financially from activities in scam compounds in Myawaddy township on the Thai-Myanmar border.
  • Closely associated with Tatmadaw (Myanmar Armed Forces), for example by informing the Tatmadaw about opponents of the government and by forcefully recruiting soldiers.
  • Lieutenant Colonel Mote Thun and Major Tin Win have also been listed.

On Apr. 26, EU CNCL renewed Myanmar measures for a further year.

  • EU CNCL announced a decision to prolong the EU restrictive measures in view of the situation in Myanmar for one year, until Apr. 30, 2025.
  • Restrictive Measures
  • Decision taken in view of the continuing grave situation in Myanmar, including actions undermining democracy, as well as serious human rights violations.
  • Restrictive measures currently apply to a total of 103 individuals and 21 entities.
  • Those listed under the sanctions regime are subject to an asset freeze and the provision of funds or economic resources, directly or indirectly, to them or for their benefit is prohibited, plus, a travel ban to the EU applies to the natural persons listed.
  • Other EU restrictive measures remain in place: the embargo on arms and equipment and export restrictions on equipment for monitoring communications.
  • Used for internal repression, export ban on dual-use goods for use by military and border guard police, prohibition of military training and cooperation with armed forces.
  • Restrictive measures come in addition to withholding of EU financial assistance going to government, freezing of EU assistance that may be seen as legitimizing the junta.

  • The restrictive measures are extended until Apr. 30, 2025.
