On Aug. 24, US IRS issued a reminder about e-file system transition.
US IRS reminded Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) users to prepare for its retirement and transition to the Information Returns Intake System (IRIS) for 2027.
FIRE System Retirement Deadline
After maintenance in Nov., filers won't be able to submit information returns via FIRE.
Current users must transition to IRIS to file tax year 2026 information returns in 2027.
Key FIRE deadlines are Nov. 1, Nov. 9, and Nov. 19, 2026, for testing, Transmitter Control Codes (TCC) application changes, and final information return submissions.
Beginning in 2027, all forms previously supported by FIRE will be available via IRIS.
To prepare for the transition, filers should apply for an IRIS TCC, review IRIS e-filing guidance, subscribe to IRIS QuickAlerts, register for IRIS Working Group meetings.
