On Oct. 20, FR FBF issued template FICP warning letters for defaulting borrowers.
FR FBF issued recommendation providing template letters that banks should use to warn defaulting borrowers before and at the point of their entry on the FICP national credit incident register.
Pre-Registration
Warning Letter No. 1 notifies the borrower of a characterised payment incident and gives 30 calendar days from posting to settle the debt before registration.
The letter explains that registration lasts five years and is managed by FR CB, and that the borrower can seek debt-counselling support.
Registration Notice
Letter No. 2 confirms the borrower has been entered on the FICP and lists the personal and credit details sent to FR CB.
It also states that registration lasts five years, that repaying the debt in full leads to deletion, and that borrowers may request correction of any erroneous data.
Applicability and Rights
The templates apply from Nov. 20, 2026, and banks are invited to adopt them to meet their legal and regulatory obligations.
Both letters set out data protection rights of access, rectification and erasure under the GDPR and French law, with bank-specific contact details left for each institution to complete.
