FINRA Regulatory Element Education


On Jul. 12, FINRA issued reminder of continuing education obligations.


  • FINRA reminded registered persons, firms of continuing education (CE) requirements.
  • Including new regulatory element training required by FINRA Rule 1240, see #107418.
  • CE Requirements
  • FINRA Rule 1240 requires registered persons to complete the Regulatory Element courses annually by Dec. 31 for registrations they hold, unless a change occurs.
  • Registered persons who fail to complete requirements by the annual deadline will be automatically designated as CE inactive by FINRA, unless firms show a good cause.
  • All registered persons must access their assigned courses on the FinPro CE platform.
  • Firms must maintain a CE program for their registered persons to enhance securities knowledge, skills and professionalism, must complete AML, and compliance courses.
  • FINRA has also developed an online, centralized content catalog, Financial Learning Experience (FLEX), which firms may use for education and training for firm element.
  • Additionally, firms have the option in FinPro to set and require an earlier completion deadline than Dec. 31 for individuals to complete their Regulatory Element courses.
