In the budget bill for 2025, SWE GVT proposed after age 55, as the upper limit for self-employed people to be able to choose a shorter waiting period in the health insurance.
A proposal o that basis has now been approved in SWE PRL, to provide the legislation.
Insured persons with income from other gainful employment and who pay their own contribution (self-employed) can report to social security department, that they want a specific sickness benefit including a waiting period of 1 day, or 14, 30, 60 or 90 days.
Those who do not make a choice will just receive the basic qualification of seven days.
Currently, all those who reach the age of 55 cannot choose any shorter waiting period.
In order to encourage more people to run a business at an older age, SWE GVT has therefore, through the budget bill for 2025, proposed that the age limit be removed.
The proposal has now been implemented as SWE PRL approved the changes to law.
As a result of change, expenses for sickness benefit are estimated to increase by about SEK 9mn, and at same time, revenues from self-payments are expected to increase.
Minister for the Elderly and Social Insurance, Anna Tenje, commented SWE GVT must make it easier to work in oder age and safeguard the skills of elderly and counteract ageism, so I am happy to see 55-year-old limit for shorter qualifying period abolished.
Effectiveness
The changes to the law will now all fully enter into force with effect from Jan. 1, 2025.
