Canada Housing Plan
Plan to build homes on public lands by reviewing government's portfolio of federally owned land and properties to rapidly identify sites where new homes can be built.
Make more land available for building through purchase and review of underused sites.
Leasing land public land instead of selling it, and creating a land tool so homebuilders can more easily identify and navigate public lands, speed up administrative timelines.
Homes on Canada Post Properties
Also plan to use Canada Post land sites where many house one-storey buildings, which could be leveraged to build new homes, while maintaining Canada Post services.
Allows Canada Post to prioritize leasing/divestment of post office properties and lands
Homes on National Defence Lands
Plan to redevelop National Defence properties suitable for military and civilian use.
Divest properties not required for defense operations but can be used for housing.
Other Investments
The Federal government plans to reduce its office footprint and use some office space for homes, and will prioritize student housing and affordable housing.
The 2024 Budget also will provide funds for new public lands acquisition fund for middle income housing, unlock more federal lands for affordable housing providers.
Collaborate with industry and government partners to make land available for use.
Other plans include launching the Canada Rental Protection Fund, enhancing the Canadian Mortgage Charter, and creating a new Canadian Renters’ Bill of Rights.
Also will invest in low cost child care, dental care for the uninsured, increase jobs and support for entrepreneurs and innovators, AI development, provide grants for youths.
