Disaster Assistance
Authorizes FEMA to coordinate all disaster relief efforts to alleviate hardship and suffering caused by emergency on local population and provide appropriate assistance.
Also protect property, public health and safety and to lessen threat of catastrophe.
Emergency protective measures, limited to direct federal assistance, under the Public assistance program, will be provided at 75% federal funding for Suffolk County.

New York's Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) program is launching an emergency repair program for homeowners in Nassau and Suffolk counties; DFS staff deployed.
Under the HCR program, homeowners may be eligible for grants of up to $50,000.
May fund or reimburse certain qualifying health and safety related repairs to address damage caused by the storm that are not covered by insurance or other disaster relief.
Applicants must be homeowners who occupy the home as a primary residence and total household income may not exceed 150 percent of the area median income
New York’s disaster recovery experts are working with local and federal partners to determine the State’s ability to also request a federal Major Disaster Declaration.
Sep. 2024 NYDFS Declaration
On Sep. 18, 2024, NYDFS published Aug. 23 declaration for Suffolk County.
From the date of the declaration through Sep. 22, 2024, the governor suspended the municipal and financial laws that may hinder or delay the emergency efforts.

On Oct. 31, 2024, SBA issued a supplement to the president's disaster declaration of Oct. 21, 2024, relating to storms and flooding that occurred on Aug. 18-19, 2024.
The notice allows Private Nonprofits that provide essential services of a governmental nature to file disaster loan applications under in 3 primary counties per the notice.
The number of physical damage is 208156 and for economic injury is 208160.
Deadline for physical damage is Dec. 20, 2024; for economic injury Jul. 21, 2025.
