  • Aug. 12, 2024 FEMA Offers Transitional Shelter
  • On Aug. 12, 2024, FEMA made Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) available to households in Rio Arriba, San Juan counties to those with disaster-damaged homes.
  • Applicants need not request assistance but must apply to FEMA for their eligibility.
  • FEMA will notify them of eligibility through the method of communication with FEMA that the applicants selected at the time they applied for disaster assistance.
  • May be eligible if they cannot return to disaster-damaged home and housing needs cannot be met by insurance, shelters or rental aid provided by FEMA or other agency.
  • Under TSA, FEMA pays the cost of room, taxes and non-refundable pet fees directly to participating hotels and motels excluding all other costs, such as laundry, food, etc.
  • Participants may be eligible for other FEMA aid, including Displacement Assistance, Rental Assistance, Home Repair Assistance under Individual Assistance program.
  • Aug. 17, 2024 FEMA Extends Deadline to Apply
  • On Aug. 17, 2024, FEMA extended the deadline to apply for federal disaster assistance
  • NM LEG also reported the extension which provides an additional 60 days to apply.
