MD LEG Coverage for Prostheses


On May 17, MD LEG enacted bill to extend coverage for prostheses.


  • MD LEG enacted Bill SB 614 / HB 865 titled So every body can move act, expanded current mandated benefit for coverage of prosthetic devices to include replacements.
  • Repealed, reenacted MD LEG 15-103, amended MD INS 15-820, MD INS 15-844 .
  • Bill Provisions
  • Beginning Jan. 1, 2025, Medicaid must provide coverage for prostheses, as specified.
  • Maryland health care commission (MHCC), Maryland Department of Health (MDH) must review utilization of specified codes, evaluate cost impact of requiring coverage.
  • Report to specified committees of the General Assembly by Dec. 1, 2024.
  • Required reporting by insurers, nonprofit health service plan, health maintenance organization (HMO) (collectively, carriers), Medicaid managed care organization (MCO).
  • Must submit specified compliance report by Jun. 30, 2030, which must be aggregated, reported to specified committees of MD LEG General Assembly by Dec. 31, 2030.
