  • Forest SC announced a transition period for ADV-40-004-23 Evaluation of contractors against the FSC core labour requirements, ends Dec. 31, 2024, effective Jul. 1, 2023.
  • Updated directives FSC-DIR-20-011, FSC-DIR-40-004 can be downloaded and viewed.

  • Background
  • After publication of Forest SC's core labor requirements (CLR), advice note published to provide a credible/feasible approach for evaluation of contractors, effective Jul. 1.
  • After listening to stakeholder feedback, Forest SC recognizes that more time is needed for the implementation and has introduced a transition period until Dec. 31, 2024.
  • Transition period allows certificate holders/certification bodies to adapt measures to ensure CLR are upheld by contractors operating under outsourcing agreements.
  • Next Steps
  • Build a unified understanding on the implementation of CLR with following activities.
  • Training for auditors in 4 countries; updated FAQ on CLR implementation by Oct. 2023.
  • Further refinement of the risk-based approach expected to be applied towards the implementation and auditing of CLR in Forest SC-certified supply chains.
  • A webinar for all stakeholders about CLR in late Nov./early Dec. 2023.
