On Dec. 4, ME LEG adopted rule relating to the paid leave program.
ME LEG Department of Labor adopted Rule 2024-268 relating to paid family, medical leave (PFML) program adopted in 2023, at ME LEG 26-7-6-C, 850-A through 850-R.
Rule Provisions
Provides definitions, procedures for implementing paid family, medical leave program.
Will provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave per benefit year for family leave, medical leave, safe leave or leave related to a family members impending military deployment.
The new law will apply to most employees and employers in the State of Maine, with such benefits beginning in mid-2026, premium contributions will begin Jan. 1, 2025.
Effectiveness
Rule provisions become effective on Jan. 1, 2025.
