On Jul. 28, DC LEG passed act on infertility insurance coverage.
DC LEG issued Act 25-173 entitled Expanding Access to Fertility Treatment Amendment Act of 2023 in the DC register to expand access to fertility treatment for women.
Amends DC LEG 13-254Women's health and cancer rights federal law conformity act.
Provisions
Starting Jan. 1, 2025, health insurers must provide coverage for infertility diagnosis and treatment, including in vitro fertilization, fertility preservation services.
The health benefit plan must cover at least 3 oocyte egg retrievals with unlimited embryo transfers and the medical costs related to an embryo transfer.
Starting Jan. 1, 2024, the DC Healthcare Alliance program must cover the diagnosis of infertility, any necessary ovulation enhancing drugs and related medical services.
A health insurer shall not impose deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, benefit maximums, waiting periods or any other limitations on coverage for such services.
Effectiveness
Act 25-173 becomes effective Jan. 1, 2025.
