Overview of Amendment Instrument
In alignment with Supporting ongoing access to vaccines measure, the amendment determination will insert cessation date of Jun. 30, 2025 into principal determination.
This means temporary Covid-19 vaccine suitability assessment items, including remote supervision items and in-depth suitability assessments, will no longer be subsidized on Medicare benefits schedule (MBS) from Jul. 1, 2025; the below will also be removed.
Namely, requirement for Covid-19 vaccine suitability assessment services to be bulk billed; amendment instrument was made under the Health insurance act 1973.
Effectiveness
The whole of this amendment instrument commences on Nov. 21, 2024.
Principal determination lists MBS cardiac medical MRI item 63399 to aid in diagnosing myocarditis associated with mRNA Covid-19 vaccination (always intended temporary).
New permanent MRI item 63390 will replace item 63399, effective from Jan. 1, 2025.
It repeals the Health insurance (section 3C diagnostic imaging services – duplex scanning for erectile dysfunction) determination 2020, effective from Jan. 1, 2025.
