Forest SC published two new new stewardship standards that will further promote sustainable forest management in Chile, they cover native forests and plantations.
Document date Aug. 20, 2024, received from Forest SC Aug. 21, summarized Aug. 23.
Standards
New standards each apply to all ownership types and all categories of management units (including small forests), and also include some non-timber forest products.
Main objectives are to provide independent evidence of quality of forest management and to further improve practices in key areas including conserving intact forest landscapes, conserving Chile's biodiversity, and protecting rights of local communities.
Companies in the Chilean timber industry will be able to use the standard to respond to local and international markets that demand certification of timber produced.
Chile will therefore have a responsible forest management standard of highest level as of 2024, year in which Forest SC celebrates 20 years of Forest SC in the country.
Effectiveness
The new stewardship standards both become effective on Dec. 15, 2024.
