SD LEG Department of Labor (DLR) reported on approval of federal disaster unemployment assistance (DUA) to members of Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.
Assistance due to loss of work after storms which occurred Jul. 13-14, 2024.

DUA Overview
DUA benefits will be available to Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal members left without work due to severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding which occurred July 13-14.
This includes independent contractors, self-employed, and agricultural workers.
Individuals seeking assistance through DUA program must first file for regular unemployment benefits; should indicate employment was impacted by the disaster.
SD Department of labor, regulation (DLR) will determine claimant eligibility for regular unemployment first, per FEMA; if deemed ineligible, will receive DUA application.
Eligible participants can collect benefits for weeks in which they meet program criteria.
The first possible week of compensation for DUA purposes is the week ending Jul. 20, 2024, and the last possible week of compensation is the week ending May 3, 2025.
Filing Deadline
Claims must be filed by Dec. 31, 2024, to be considered timely; claims filed after this date will be considered untimely unless individual provides good cause for filing late.
