Bill creates Florida statutes FLA LEG XXXIII-501.1736, 501.1737 and 501.1738.
Bill Provisions
Requires social media platforms to prevent some minors from creating new accounts.
Also requires them to terminate certain accounts, give other options for termination.
Bill also authorizes the Department of Legal Affairs to bring actions under the Florida deceptive and unfair trade practices act for committing knowing or reckless violations.
Also authorizes the department to issue and enforce civil investigative demands under certain circumstances and to issue civil penalties and certain punitive damages.
A commercial entity that knowingly/intentionally issues harmful material to minors on a website or application must use verification methods and prevent access to minors.
Bill additionally gives requirements for a third party who is conducting age verification.
