NEB LEG reported hearing for LB829 to change colorectal cancer insurance coverage.
Colorectal Cancer Provisions
NEB INS 44-7.102 adds the concurrent removal of polyps and/or biopsy to coverage requirements for colorectal cancer screening by self-funded employee benefit plans.
Plan must cover screening exams/laboratory tests for individuals at least 45 years old.
Changes needed to avoid additional expenses if polyp is found during screening exam.
No additional charges would apply for colorectal screening services, including tissue removal or other matter, laboratory and physician services, facility use and anesthesia.
Supporting Remarks
Less than 65% ages 45-75 meet recommendation and receive colon cancer screening.
1/3 of adults skip the recommended, preventative screenings due to lack of coverage.
